What a summer – past tense. We’ve already seen snow on the peaks and below freezing temps, if you can believe it. This is the first morning I haven’t left the house in a jacket in a couple weeks. The Aspen trees are starting to turn golden yellow. They’ll change color then drop their leaves in a short time.

Work at WildernessSports is going nicely. I’ve been promoted to Assistant Manager. It’s been nice to work with them. Les, Aevyn and I have made some neat friends through work. I encourage you to have dinner with your co-workers and neighbors. A new couple moved into the connecting house next door so we had them over for home made nachos and cards. Ryan’s a long-time, local firefighter in Breckenridge’s Red White and Blue district. I expect Kelsie, a Breck teacher, to teach Les how to use her sewing machine. So does Les, by the way.

Rescue group is going well. I just finished getting my Flight Card Wednesday, a “ticket” to fly (let me be more specific), to ride, Flight For Life – our local air ambulance helicopter. We have quite a few visits from them and it will be nice to have the Card when the particular rescues arise.

My folks and both sets of grandparents came to the house. It was a pleasure to have them here. My grandparents have supported us in so many ways since day one. I’m happy that they can now, after two and half years, visualize where we are and what we’re doing looks like. They make me happy. They stayed down the street and mom and dad stayed in the office/extra room/knife/gun showroom. We’ve been having semi-frequent visits from a 700+ pound Black Bear. It’s bigger than my (broken down) motorcycle. I’d say safely, stands 7-8ft. tall. My parents were honored to have it knock down the trash can about 15ft from their window. Every night that it comes I have to go outside and flash the remote car lights to get it to go away. Les envisions the bear dragging me away to it’s den to devour my innards. There are verified reports of bears breaking down doors and ripping apart kitchens. Needless to say I keep a Springfield XD40, a .40 caliber pistol under the bed in a case. If it comes upstairs I’ll scream, just before I kill it for bear stroganoff, “WE MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE!!!” like in the Underarmor commercials. Actually I’d probably scream like a small child and scoot my family on the roof.

Digressing – keep Les in your prayers. She is still seeing shortness of breath. I’ve been tracking her blood pressure and heart rate. Her BP has always been good and consistent. Her heart rate is dropping and staying in the 80s, a blessing. She has a stress test in Vail in a week or two at our cardiologist. I’m a month into EMT school and learning some little things to help me understand how the heart works.

Psalm 20! Psalm 20!

Ok, that was ridiculous. I’m just bitter at Bellevue for giving me Church Participant in Bible Drill. If you don’t know what that means I’ll tell you. It pretty much says, “We don’t want to make you feel like an doof for accomplishing nothing at all in Bible Drill so we’ll give you a prize called, ‘Thanks for trying goober, but no luck!’”

ANYWAY, I just wanted to share a verse with you. A dear friend of Les and I’s in Colorado Springs, Sara Johnson, sent us an email this morning; I wanted to turn it to you as well. Go ahead and read Psalm 20…It might take you as long as me so I’ll give you the extra minute that Bible Drill didn’t give me …

I have to ask you in response to what you read – what do you trust in my friend? Do you trust in the things of this world or the things of God? Our small group read last night in Matthew 13, a reference to Isaiah (6, I think). Here’s the paraphrase: some seeds were thrown on the path – they died quickly; some seeds were thrown on the thin soil – they grew with no roots and at the first sign of trouble died; some seeds were thrown among the thorns – they grew and were soon choked, as Jesus explained to the Disciples, by the “cares of this world and deceitfulness of riches”; the other seeds were thrown in a good place and they grew, and not only did they grow but they produced a crop by one hundred fold or sixty fold or thirty fold.

I’m pleased that Jesus chose to explain that to us.

Do you trust in chariots, as verse seven says, or do you trust in that Name? Are we choked by the “cares of this world”? I want to encourage you as well to rejoice in the victories of others, to lift the banner of God in praise when He grants the desires of our hearts.

Well, hi there! I hope that summer is bringing you warmer weather than we have here!! Summer has come to the mountains, but not without the occasional snow…like today:(

I write this newsletter and ask that it would be a call to pray for the body of HCC. I have recently started reading through Romans in my quiet time, and I came to the end of chapter 4 verse 18. It says “Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed…” I got to wondering what it meant to believe God in the kind of hope that produces righteousness (vs.3). The next day I came to chapter 5 verse 3, “…we rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us…” Wow, what a promise. My conclusion was this: If I was to come into a relationship with Christ where I was truly believing Him, in hope, I was going to have to suffer. This last month has been full of wonderful moments. We were able to see many of your sweet faces and get a fresh vision for ministry when we were home for the missions fair. We moved our church services to Sunday evening to better serve the body for the summer, and we are very excited to see what it will bring. We celebrated Aevyn’s first birthday, and we found out we are expecting another little one in February!

We moved here over two years ago with great hope and expectation for God’s vision for Summit County. Even today, I am amazed that the Lord called us to this beautiful place. As you well know we live in a community where the people are “lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.” Pastor Jeff has urged the congregation to not let this carnal mindset creep into the body of Christ, however it has been a major struggle. It is time for us to grow in our concern for the local body of Christ and personal spiritual growth. The summers are tough since it is for many the only time for families to travel, camp, hike and other outdoor things. I am asking that you would pray for High Country Church and it’s staff. We are facing some other issues outside the body that will affect the church, and we need God’s wisdom, vision, and provision. Pray that HCC will see the need for a consistent walk with Christ. Finally, pray that Pastor Jeff will be refreshed, encouraged, and provided for. Pray that he will have the anointing of the Holy Spirit as he teaches.

Tyler and I have yet entered into a another new season. As you know Tyler has taken a job with a local Snowmobile/ATV business as the manager. However, he has resigned this week due to some difficult circumstances within the business. Pray for Tyler as he looks for a new job and for our family as we face disappointment.

In all these things we are persevering and praying that God changes our character resulting in HOPE!! We are trusting the Lord knowing that He called us to this county! We will be faithful to what He has entrusted to us!! Thank you for your prayers and gifts. You are a blessing.
