Kick the Tires 06.20.2008

...[taking a deep breath]

OK, I'm better now.

We are three days away from light'n the fires. I'm in my "office" at The Crown Tavern Coffee putting together maps, storage facilities in Pearland, catching up on emails and phone calls. Yesterday I took Les, Aevyn and Stone to Denver to stay with friends while I take care of the fun things at the house. I went to bed at midnight last night on an empty mattress, surrounded by piles of boxes. I used one of Stone's tiny blankets for my cover. I might have had a nightmare where a bunch of boxes crawl together to form Box Man, then attack me with packing tape and foam peanuts. I woke up before 8 and met the movers in Dillon Valley to pick up our piano, then met them at our house to begin the loading. I've said it a few times before, but having someone move you is outrageously convenient. If we ever move by ourselves I think I'll just throw it all in the yard and pour gasoline on it. Seriously, I'm not buying anything else - ever. Lately I've been selling something if I buy something. I just bought a watch, so I sold the old one. It's embarrassing to be 27 with so much stuff.

(I have a twitch in my bicept and it's driving me crazy).

ANYWAY. I'll spend the night somewhere tonight. Maybe in the bath tub, but I've heard of people waking up without a liver. If someone did that to me I would be ticked. You'd never find the person either since like 87% of people in the county are alcoholics and could all use a new liver. Did you know that something close to 43.9 percent of statistics are made up?

ANYWAY, round two. I can't concentrate. I'll spend the night up here and drive down to pick up mi familia. We'll come back here and spend the night at a friend's house, play Sunday morning at church, then say goodbye to all the trees and mountains and flowers and birds and quiet streets. We'll spend our last, residential night in Colorado and head out early Monday morning.

The plan is to drive 789 miles to El Paso and spend our first night in our new state - Texas. We'll finish the 735 miles to Houston on Tuesday.

There you have it.

Kick the tires and light the fires, here we go.

I'm with you on the stuff. I've been prepping Kelly for throwing stuff away for years. We're moving out in less than a month, and I hope to be putting more stuff in the trash than in boxes. Where did all of this stuff come from... we don't need it.

As long as you're all breathing, I'm good!

Whenever we move ( which is usually every 3 years or so), I am always amazed at the amount of "stuff" we accumulate. And by "we" I really mean "the kids". How could such a small human being "need" so much "stuff"??? They don't.....but tell that to the grandparents!!! And by grandparents, I mean the MANY sets of grandparents they have due to my husband's parents and my parents being divorced/ remarried/ divorced...etc...So, I feel your pain. But I am so excited to see how God's plan is unfolding for your ministry and family!! You all are always in our prayers!!!

I hope Texas will be fun for y'all. It's been in the 90's for at least the past 3 weeks, with at least 1 day over 100. I hope y'all love your new church and I can't wait to hear how it's going.

Tyler,
The first time I realized I couldn't fit all my worldly belongings in my backpack or at a stretch into my Saturn...I nearly had a breakdown. David and I have been thinking about you guys lately as you make this transition.
