AKA. The Suit 05.27.2008
So, here's the deal. Some things are going on with the Newberry's - pretty big stuff. No, we're not pregnant; at least I don't think we are. :)
We are waiting on a phone call from Someone. Once we hear from that Someone we will let you know what's going on. Most of you know that we left High Country Church a few months ago - since then Pastor Jeff has included his resignation as well. Once we did that we placed our name in the universe for a music position. In less than 48-hours we received a call from an out of state church. I'll save the specifics until later. A few weeks ago we went for an interview, actually it was more like five little interviews with all the folks that can make it happen. We also played four times over two days, for I don't know, 8-10,000 people or something. Who's counting. I got to play along with a drummer, a B3, a piano, electric guitar, bass, horns, ensemble and choir - it felt like "home." It was like a mid-air, jumping audio high-five with a friend. Oh, and I almost wet my britches, it's been so long since I'd played in front of many people.
All those we interviewed with agreed that we've got something to offer. WHO KNEW!
We are waiting to hear from one more person. He will inquire about our financial situation and present a compensation package. Man, I guess I'll have to tell him about our ocean yacht and Swiss homes and our islands. Actually, that's not true, we don't have a yacht. Really, I should tell him that I just threw away a bunch of clothes and shoes that I've had since 9th grade.
Funny story. Well, Les doesn't think it's as funny as I do. So when They called us to play for them, They said I'd need to wear a suit. A suit. All I could do was laugh and say, "Well, um...I don't have one of those. What are they exactly?" They we're gracious and kind enough to tell me not to worry about it.
When I got there they pieced one together for me. I looked like a 6th grader wearing his older brother's suit that he bought for his great grand mother's funeral. Or a mismatched pant suit that someone's mom let me borrow. It was funny to say the least. Even the guy who let me borrow it was laughing, and his wife. It was near like those dreams where you find yourself playing naked in front of a crowd. The "suit" was better than what I had to offer.
ANYWAY, we'll keep you posted when we hear from Them. I'll also be more specific than Someone, They or Them.
Stone says, "Have a nice day."

You ever see that Office episode where he was wearing the female pant suit?
