Memphis 08.24.2006
What a trip. In two weeks we had to catch up with 1,327 people; at least that’s what if felt like. We need a vacation now.
Minus a few guys here and there I left satisfied with the time we were able to spend with our friends and family. Thank you to all who took time to catch up with us. Especially thank you to all our supporters who were able to come Wednesday night. I can not tell you how much it meant to us that you were there. I hope that you were blessed by our time together.
Hopefully the next time we see each other will be in the mountains. We are pretty spontaneous people so we do not need much warning. What would be really nice is if I could get my pilot’s license.
While it was nice to visit we are happy to be home. (The weather sure is a nice incentive). Leaving Memphis at 9am we drove 3.5 hours to Nashvegas. We arrived at the airport hours early in fear of missing our flight, due to ramped security…three minutes later we were at our gate. The only difference I saw as far as security was a sleeping German Shepherd; threatening indeed. You could have put a bomb on his head and he wouldn’t have moved. I also discovered that people are nice to you when you have a baby in your arms. It’s like, all the sudden they switch from a crotchety professional traveler to sweet Aunty Stranger. Even the frisking Homeland Security guards smile and wave.
We landed in Chicago (the nicest airport) and waited for our connecting flight. By the way, Pre-Board is the way to travel. It’s like going to Six Flags with a broken leg - front of the line baby! As nice as people wanted to be to a family traveling with a 3 month old they gave us dirty looks as we gathered up the bulk head seats. And once you’re seated you don’t have to worry about that 380 pound man sitting next to you - who wants to sit next to a possible screamer? Aevyn didn’t make a peep on any of the flights by the way.
We arrived in Denver and waited for over an hour for our luggage and shuttle. After the 1.5 hour drive home we pulled in to our humble abode at 12 Midnight sharp. I was so proud of Les and Aevyn.
Thanks for hanging out with us. If nothing else we got ping-pong, cookie cakes, Starbucks, billiards and nice mattresses to sleep on (our stinks).
We are having problems with our photo software so please be patient. New photos are coming.
